SERDA Participated in the BIOFIN-EU Project Plenary Meeting in Thessaloniki
A representative of the Sarajevo Regional Development Agency (SERDA) participated in the plenary meeting of the BIOFIN-EU project (Protecting and Restoring Biodiversity Using Mainstream Finance), held from 26 to 28 May 2026 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The meeting was hosted by the project partner RAINNO and brought together representatives of partner organizations from across Europe to exchange experiences, review the project's progress, and plan upcoming activities.
During the three-day meeting, project partners presented progress in the implementation of the work packages, discussed the development of project tools, dissemination activities, project performance indicators, and the next steps in strengthening financing for biodiversity protection and restoration. Particular attention was given to the development of innovative financial mechanisms, engagement with financial intermediaries, the application of a systems approach to assessing the project's impact, and enhancing knowledge exchange among partners.
A dedicated session of the programme focused on presenting the BIOFIN-EU Learning Sites through video and podcast presentations. On this occasion, SERDA showcased the activities carried out within Learning Site 9 – Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the Mojmilo Forest Park as an example of implementing Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to protect biodiversity, improve the quality of the urban environment, and develop sustainable financing models for natural capital.
The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for intensive knowledge and experience exchange among project partners, strengthening cooperation, and aligning the next steps in project implementation. Special emphasis was placed on developing innovative approaches that enable the financial sector, public institutions, and other relevant stakeholders to play a more active role in biodiversity protection and restoration.
SERDA will continue implementing the BIOFIN-EU project in the coming period, with the aim of developing and promoting sustainable financial solutions that contribute to the preservation of natural capital and enhance the resilience of local communities to the challenges of climate change.
The BIOFIN-EU project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme and brings together partners from several European countries to develop and test innovative financial instruments for biodiversity protection and restoration.
