Sarajevo and Vienna join forces on textile waste: Circular solutions for a more sustainable future

As the Lead Partner of the Green-Tex project, SERDA presented the activities implemented so far and pilot solutions aimed at improving the textile waste collection system in Sarajevo Canton, including smart containers equipped with sensors to monitor fill levels and enable more efficient logistics management.

The workshop addressed important issues related to the growing problem of textile waste, the impact of fast fashion, the role of citizens and the need for improved infrastructure. Experts from Vienna presented Austrian experiences and plans for moving towards more controlled textile collection models through waste collection centres and reuse facilities.

The exchange confirmed that Sarajevo and Vienna, despite having different systems, face similar challenges and share significant potential for cooperation. SERDA once again highlighted its key role in connecting international partners, transferring good practices and developing sustainable solutions for the future of textile waste management in Sarajevo.
