A project partner meeting within the Danube Wood(s) Route project was held in Varna, Bulgaria, on 19–20 February 2026. The meeting was hosted by the Bulgarian project partner VEDA and brought together representatives of all partner organizations involved in the project implementation.
The first day of the meeting was divided into two parts. During the working session, the partners presented the current status of the implementation of project activities initiated in the fourth reporting period and continuing into the fifth project period, with a particular focus on Activity A2.2 – Designing the Innovation Toolbox, and Activity A2.3 – Crowdfunding (group financing) as an upgrade and extension of Activity A2.2. The discussion focused on progress achieved, implementation challenges, and coordination of the next steps. On this occasion, the Lead Partner informed the partners about the current stage of preparation of the proposal for extending the project duration by an additional six months, including planned procedural steps and the indicative timeline.
The second part of the day was dedicated to the Steering Committee meeting, during which strategic issues related to project management, implementation dynamics, and quality assurance of planned outputs were discussed.
As part of the first-day programme, a study visit to Euxinograd Palace and Park, one of Bulgaria’s most significant cultural and historical sites, was organized. The Euxinograd complex, once the summer residence of the Bulgarian royal family, is located on the Black Sea coast and is recognized for its architecture inspired by 19th-century French châteaux. The spacious park represents a particular value and is today a protected cultural heritage site and an attractive tourist destination.
On the second day, project partners participated in a conference organized by the Union of Tour Guides of Bulgaria and VEDA on the occasion of the International Tourist Guide Day. The conference focused on the role of tourist guides in the interpretation of cultural and natural heritage, the development of sustainable tourism, and the enhancement of visitor experience, fully aligning with the objectives of the Danube Wood(s) Route project.
The meeting in Varna confirmed the importance of continuous cooperation among project partners, experience exchange, and joint planning in order to ensure successful implementation of project activities and the long-term sustainability of project results.
