First OMC group meeting held within the PROSPERO project
Organized by the project partners, the Sarajevo Economic Region Development Agency SERDA and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Canton Sarajevo, held the first OMC group meeting within the project “Culture and Creativity driving prosperous development – PROSPERO”, implemented under the Interreg Europe programme.
The meeting took place on October 27, 2025, at SERDA premises and gathered representatives of institutions and organizations that contribute in various ways to the development of the cultural and creative sector of the Sarajevo Canton. It served as an opportunity to establish intersectoral dialogue and initiate joint action to improve cultural policies, thereby officially marking the beginning of the OMC group’s work in the Canton.
During the meeting, the objectives and activities of the PROSPERO project were presented, aimed at strengthening institutional capacities and supporting cultural and creative industries as drivers of social and economic development. Special focus was placed on the Culture Development Strategy of Canton Sarajevo until 2027, as the main document of the Canton’s cultural policy, which will be further analysed through the work of the group in order to improve existing measures.
Participants discussed the current state of the cultural sector, highlighting challenges such as the lack of qualified staff, limited spaces and infrastructure, and complex administrative procedures that slow down the development of this sector. The need for greater digitalization, international cooperation and the introduction of economic indicators that would measure the real contribution of culture to local development was emphasized. The discussion confirmed that the existing Strategy already recognizes the key needs of the sector and can serve as a basis for new ideas and initiatives.
It was concluded that culture should not be viewed as an addition to development, but as its driving force and one of the key pillars of sustainable progress in Sarajevo Canton. The next OMC group meeting is planned for early 2026, when concrete proposals and recommendations for improving the cultural framework will be considered.
